Members of the Bus and Coach Association are drawn from all sizes and types of operators in South Australia. They fund the Association, with no direct support from the government. It is a truly independent voice for the industry, and has been so for over fifty years.
Its members operate regular city commuter services, long distance services across the State, tours to destinations within and outside South Australia, and charter out coaches for all kinds of customers, whether by casual hire or on regular contracted operations.
All members, regardless of their size and area of operation, are expected to conform to the Code of Conduct, which is similar to those in other States of Australia and therefore customers can be sure that the standards can be relied upon wherever they go.
Contents of the Code cover safety issues, such as observation of the rules of the road, speed limits and hours of duty, total absence of alcohol and drugs and fatigue management; also included is the requirement for appropriate driver and operator licenses and Government accreditation. The Code also requires truth in advertising and promotion.
The role of the Association includes many other tasks such as taking part in all industry forums, informing the industry of Government regulatory requirements and taking up issues with Governments at all levels which affect the drivers and operators.
BCA (SA) is also the promoter of training and assessment for bus operators and their drivers, and works with the Office of Public Transport and the Transport Advisory Board to ensure that drivers and operators meet required standards of safety and customer service.
The Association plays a key role as a link between the transport and promotion elements of the travel and tourism industry. It works with Government, commercial organisations and other bodies to promote the use of buses and coaches in the community and to develop publications to provide information to operators about current legislation, regulations and special issues such as environmental and cultural concerns.
Regular meetings are organised to help keep members up to date with this wide range of issues.
All of this means that a customer may rely on the work of any of the members who are currently listed in this site.
