Services

Public Role

The services provided by the BCA (SA) to its own members are not the only ones. It also helps customers seeking access to bus and coach services, and promotes the industry publicly.

It handles individual questions from potential travellers, follows up any situation which the customer raises and acts as a source of information and a communication medium for all parties concerned.

It has also helped produce public information in conjunction with the regulatory authorities to widen the reach of bus information, including outer area timetables and promotion of safety requirements for self drive hire bus operators.

A most important role is to exploit opportunities whenever they arise in the press or other media to present a positive image of professional bus and coach operators.

Its public role is to promote the use of buses and coaches to the mutual benefit of both the community and its own operator members.

Government Role

The BCA (SA) represents the bus and coach industry in South Australia to the Federal, State and Local Government agencies. It negotiates with them to deliver the best outcomes for its members through working groups and industry representation on committees and panels.

It communicates with Governments at all levels in matters which affect the industry, either through its association with colleagues interstate under the overall umbrella of the Bus Industry Confederation or directly with a wide variety of Government agencies in South Australia. It advises government agencies and seeks recognition by them of the effective role of bus and coach operations, and how to preserve and promote their operations to the benefit of the community at large.

In the interests of the community at large it works to seek a stable and profitable industry, giving support to those whose livelihoods depend on it and endeavours to promote a fair and competitive market place for them to operate in. To this end it works with the industry and the Transport Workers Union to achieve mutually satisfactory Awards for industry members.

It co-operates with government instrumentalities to ensure standards of safety and maintenance are maintained, and consults with them on their proposals. It is instrumental in advising on the application of the Code of Practice and the Mandatory Maintenance Scheme.

Its role with the Government as an industry voice is to work continually to improve the standards of performance of operators so they deliver high quality services to the community as large and thereby improve the income which members can enjoy and which contribute to a healthy growing industry.
